The first television opera
On December 24, 1951, "Amahl and the Night Visitors" made history as the first opera composed specifically for television, broadcast live in the United States. Written by Gian Carlo Menotti, it became a beloved holiday tradition, airing on NBC every Christmas Eve until 1966.
