In this segment, we interview Assata Thomas: She is the Executive Director of Philadelphia’s Division of Reentry and a nationally recognized voice in criminal justice reform. With more than 20 years of experience—and the lived experience of overcoming a felony conviction—she brings both expertise and authenticity to her work. She’s led major transformation in Philadelphia’s reentry system, expanding services, building a coalition of over 150 organizations, and opening the city’s first community-based reentry center. A Rutgers graduate with a Master’s in Restorative Justice and recent leadership training from Harvard Kennedy School, she’s also an award-winning advocate, author of Forward Only: Speak Power, Live Change, and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
