Ed.: As I understand it, the so called first month is called first mostly because it's the month with Passover in it, and Passover's the best. If you want to say that's the holy and divine way to reckon the new year, that's fine, but for common everyday folk and things, the festival opening the seventh month is the "normal" new year. There's also New-Year-for-Trees, which has never been relevant to me, so I don't know why it's a third thing.
